Wild Card and Text Searches in Entitlement and Product Selection Screens

The search fields in the Entitlements page and the Product Selection page support additional search methods such as wild card search, OR search, etc. This section provides details about the search methods available in these two screens.

Wild Card Search

Wild Card search returns results that match combinations of characters and wild cards. Sentinel EMS supports the asterisk (*) and question mark (?) as wild card characters. Wild Card search is available for Products, Features, Entitlements, Product Keys, Customers, and Channel Partners under their respective tabs.

Wild Card Character Meaning Usage Example
Asterisk (*) Matches zero or more non-space characters. After a term

123* will match any value starting with 123, such as 1234, 123567, 123667, and so on.

Inside a term 12*3 will match any value starting with 12 and ending with 3, such as 1243, 12443, 1247356873, and so on.
Before a term *123 will match any value ending with 123, for example, 9123, 2341252123, 65665123, and so on.
Question mark (?) Matches exactly one non-space character. After a term

123? will match 1234, 1235, 1236, and so on.

Inside a term 12?3 will match 1243, 1253, 1263, and so on.
Before a term ?123 will match 9123, 1123, 2123, and so on.
There can be more than one wild card in a single search term or phrase, and the two wild card characters can be used in combination.

OR Search

If there is a space between two terms, the OR operator is used. The search returns matching entries where either of the terms exist.

Example

Search for Sara Brown will match all entries having either Sara or Brown, for example, Sara Smith, Robert Brown, Sara Brown, and so on.

Exact Word Search

To search by a exact word or phrase, surround the search query by double quotes.

Search for "Sara Brown" will match all entries having the exact name Sara Brown.

Partial Word Search

This search method is similar to simple text search, only it allows to search for all words starting with the provided characters.

Example

A search for 123 will return 123, 12345, 12377547, and so on.

Search for joh will return John, Johney, Johnson, and so on.

Search results for 123 and 123* will be similar. Similarly, search results for joh and joh* will be similar.
